In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling hills, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His being was untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His main role was mainly to look after his herd of rams.
Their gentle baas and the rustling of the gales among the single tree on the mountaintop were his only co-dwellers. Day upon day, guarding his charges imbued in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.
Yet, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. During one such occasion because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plan.
Tales of predators hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a prank on the villagers.
One day read more he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The frightened villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.
The boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This prank persisted for a few days more. Yet, one day, a real wolf did attack the herd. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
